Outdoor Play in Every Season

At Hidden Valley, we believe that every season brings new adventures—and we embrace them all! Our students play and learn outdoors year-round, even in the coldest months. Staying warm and dry is key to making the most of these experiences.

When children are properly dressed for the weather, they can fully enjoy the day—and so can their peers. Discomfort from being cold or wet can impact not only an individual child’s experience but also the group's overall energy and engagement.

To ensure your child is safe, comfortable, and ready for fun, we require the following cold weather gear:

Required Cold Weather Gear

  • Warm hat – Synthetic or wool (no cotton)

  • Wool or synthetic base layers – Top and bottom, including wool socks (No cotton blends)

  • Fleece mid-layersJacket and Pants (No cotton blends)

  • Waterproof mittens – Easy to get on/off (Reima mittens highly recommended).
If not waterproof, please pack two extra pairs

  • Reima rain set – Required
Rain pants must be 1–2 sizes up to allow layering and free movement. Bright colors preferred

  • Waterproof, insulated winter set (jacket and suit) – Required for frigid weather (below 40°F), with a hood - Note: If your child wears wool/synthetic base layers, fleece mid-layers, and a waterproof rain set, an insulated winter set may not be necessary. Our recommended layering system is adaptable for all weather conditions.

  • Insulated rubber bootsBogs or Oakis brand required for warmth and waterproofing

With the right gear, outdoor learning stays joyful, safe, and warm—no matter the weather! If you have any questions or need help finding the right items, we’re happy to assist.
